Subject matter expert is an authority on a specific niche or topic. In 2021 consumers will want to connect and engage with real estate practitioners that specialize in a particular field within the housing market. Becoming a subject matter expert requires education, experience and marketing techniques.
Knowing what you’re talking about is imperative to your success in dealing with prospects, customers, and clients. They want to engage with, and buy from, companies that sound like they know what they’re talking about.
Consumers can smell fakes, and they won’t hesitate to let you know when you miss the mark.
It comes down to 8 things:
- Understanding how to do thorough research
- Learning how to take complex material and break it down so it can be understood by your customers and clients
- Knowing how to write in your brand’s voice and not just your own
- Know who you are talking to
- Know how to talk to them
- Marketing and selling your specialty
Achieving subject matter expert status will take time and consistent effort, but it can be achieved. As a broad and somewhat vague goal (who really determines what “expert” means?) you may be there long before you realize it.
